How to Edit Your WordPress Profile (Name, Bio, and Gravatar)

Now that your WordPress settings are in place, it’s time to personalize your author profile – the name and bio that appear next to your blog posts and comments.

This may seem small, but it adds trust and personality to your blog. In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

  • Change your display name
  • Add a short author bio
  • Set a profile image using Gravatar

Let’s make your profile look professional.

Step 1: Open Your Profile Settings

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard
  2. From the left menu, go to Users → Profile
  3. If you have set multiple users, then go to users > all users > edit (choose one you want to edit)

This is your personal profile page in WordPress.

Step 2: Change Your Display Name

Scroll down to the Name section.

You will see:

  • Username – This can’t be changed.
  • First Name and Last Name – Fill in as you would like (Optional).
  • Nickname (required) – This can be anything (e.g., “Your first name + Initials”).
  • Display name publicly as – Choose how your name should appear on your posts.

Pro Tip: Use a professional or friendly version of your name, like “your first name” or “first name + initials”.

Step 3: Add Your Author Bio

Scroll further to the About Yourself section:

  • Biographical Info – Write a short intro about yourself (1–2 lines is enough).

Example:

I am a qualified chef and share quick recipes that will not only help beginner chefs but also all cooks, including housewives, to celebrate various occasions.

This may show up in author boxes below blog posts (if your theme supports it).

Step 4: Set Your Profile Picture (Gravatar)

WordPress does not let you upload a profile photo directly. Instead, it uses a service called Gravatar.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Scroll down to the Profile picture section.
  2. Click on ‘You can change your profile picture on Gravatar‘.
  3. It will take you to https://gravatar.com/
  4. Create an account using the same email address you use for your WordPress login
  5. Upload a clear headshot or logo
  6. Enter your name/display name
  7. Assign it to your email address

That’s it! Your Gravatar photo will automatically show up in WordPress (may take a few minutes to sync).

Step 5: Save Your Changes

Scroll down and click “Update Profile” at the bottom.

You’re done! ✅
